Over the last five years, these types of dolls have become much more predominant in this market. Typically, these dolls are created through a lengthy process that begins by disassebmbling the doll and removing it's original paint. Once the paint is stripped, the plastic shell can be altered. Reborn dolls then have a purple hue added to the plastic which add to the realistic skin color of the doll. From there, other colors are added to create an actual skin tone, much like a human would have. These reborn dolls then have actual human hair or soft human-like faux hair added for the hair and lashes. Since this is done by hand, it is often a painstaking process, taking several hours. Once the hair is complete, the doll is put back together. It is at this point that softer fillings and sound boxes to emulate a heartbeat are added to add to the realism of the doll.
